Sixteen Teams Secure Champions League Berths, Including PSG, Marseille, and Monaco

French Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain will be joined by Marseille and Monaco in next season’s Champions League. France, along with Spain (Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Atlеtico Madrid), became the first nations to secure three spots in the group stage. A total of sixteen teams have already qualified for Europe’s most prestigious club competition, with the draw scheduled for August 28th.

Italy also boasts three representatives: Napoli, Inter Milan, and Atalanta. Atalanta secured their top-four Serie A finish with a 2-1 victory over rivals AS Roma. Napoli and Inter are battling for the Serie A title, separated by a single point with two matches remaining. The situation is similar in the Netherlands, where Ajax and PSV Eindhoven have qualified, awaiting the Eredivisie champion’s coronation. In Germany, Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen have qualified, with two more Bundesliga spots yet to be decided.

Thanks to the Premier League‘s strong UEFA coefficient ranking, England will have six teams in the expanded 36-team Champions League format starting mid-September. Currently, only champions Liverpool have secured their place. While Arsenal are close to qualification, two of Newcastle, Manchester City, Chelsea, Aston Villa, and Nottingham Forest will miss out. Four days before the Premier League concludes on May 25th, either Manchester United or Tottenham will claim a spot as the Europa League winner.

The future Champions League winner has also indirectly secured a berth, as both PSG and Inter Milan qualified through their domestic leagues. This opened a spot for the club with the highest UEFA coefficient from the preliminary rounds in the Champions’ path. This place has been awarded to Greek champions Olympiakos, who last appeared in the group stage in 2020-2021. Czech champions Slavia Prague, absent since 2019-2020, will also return, succeeding their city rivals Sparta Prague.
